Frederick John Hinton 9 years 6 months ago #22935

My grandfather, Frederick John Hinton, had enlisted in the Victoria and St George's Rifles in London in the early 1890's and I believe went with his unit (which I understand was a territorial unit) to South Africa. However, I have been unable to verify this and would be grateful for any help to discover whether he did take part, and if so whether he received any medals.

Frederick married Evelyn Maud Cooper (also from London) in Cape Town in 1900 which creates a bit of a mystery for me: how was he able to get married if he was on active service at the time?

Any ideas gratefully received. Thanks, Peter

Hello Peter,

I know that this is a long shot but do you know if his parents names were John and Sarah Hinton and if he perhaps come from Lymm in Chester?
