I started to research distant relation Wilfrid Pocklington believing him to only have served in the First World War. I found his army papers dated 6th February 1899 and his joining the 8th Hussars as private 46233 with 4357 crossed out. Previous service in the Militia and Yorkshire Artillery were also noted.
I found his forename given as Wilfred mainly but also Wilfred and Wilford. He served as a corporal in First World War.
I have made the assumption that he served in South Africa with the 8th Hussars. Can any member please confirm his service?
Many thanks.

Many thanks Mike. I was once an OMRS member and had a couple of articles published in their mag but left over 20 years ago after I found I didn't have the time. Although now I'm retired and with the internet things are very different.

Pocklington served in South Africa from the 27th of July 1900 to the 18th of November 1903, hard perhaps, but, I should imagine that it was not as hard as being a guest of the wretched Emperor of Germany and his epicentre of culture for over four years just a little later on, dark days indeed! :(
