Yes, the CC and OFS clasp combination was the most common combination of clasps to the CP and at face value would seem to indicate that the chaps didn't do too much. However, nothing could be further from the truth and as Wooler's letter states, the CP put up with much hardships often stationed literally in the middle of nowhere whilst busy with normal Police duties as well as keeping an eye on the Boers and often finding themselves in the middle of some fierce skirmishes.

The CP were really a very able bunch that got stuck in when required and as such are for me a most interesting research area.

I think that it was so often the case that those humble state clasps were indeed earned the hard way, it is a very sad lack of understanding as to what was actually happening throughout the whole of South Africa after the enemies capitals had been taken, you only need to examine the South African Constabulary to see that this phase was very full on indeed.

I see from the medal roll that, like many of the men on the CP DI roll he received the CC and OFS clasps. Its sounds like they were well earned!
