QSA (4) Cape Colony, Wepener, Transvaal, Wittebergen (Pte J Marr, Kaffrn: Rifles).

Enlisted 7 October 1899. Discharged 11 September 1900

Hammer price £440.

A Wepener-related CGHGSM

He joined the CMR 22 March 1886. Earned the QSA (4) CC Wep Tr Witt and KSA (2) but deserted 7 August 1902 and his QSA and KSA were withheld.

From the City Coins auction, 4 November 2022

QSA (5) Cape Colony, Wittebergen, Belfast, Wepener, South Africa 1901 (719 Tpr: C. Wright. Brabant’s Horse.), last two bars loose;

Charles Robertson Wright enlisted 2nd BrH 13 December 1899 in Queenstown. Missing in action at Bethlehem, 8 July 1900. Discharged 15 October 1900 in Pretoria. Also served 3rd RPR (1733) 15 December 1900 to 6 July 1901.


Pair to a family member: BWM; AVM (bilingual) Pte J. McL. Wright 9th S.A.I.

John McLennan Wright born Glasgow Scotland, age 29, attested for service with the 9th S. A. Infantry in Potchefstroom on 14 December 1915 and after service in East Africa was discharged being no longer physically fit for War service on 8 September 1917.

Francis Prance

Enlisted 1st BrH 17 November 1899 in Kei Road and posted to B Troop. Aged 41. Trade: Farmer. Prior service in the Cape Police. Address: Middle Drift. Discharged 30 March 1900. Re-enlisted (12) 22 June 1900 in East London. Discharged, time expired, 2 October 1901 in Cape Town. Conduct very good. Address after discharge: East London. SA01 clasp issued 3 July 1913

QSA sold Bidorbuy June 2019. The description stated the suspender was detached from the medal.

Served during the Boer War as the private servant to Brigadier-General J P Brabazon, 10th Hussars, who Commanded the Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa from 11 February 1900,

The page where he is listed (WO100/130p152) contains the named of General Brabazon and his staff who have Wepener ticked but were not actually present during the siege.
