Dear David

when Churchill met up with Stewart and Wagner he said I will see that you will be rewarded for what you did. Churchill had to wait till 1919 when he became Home Secretary to keep his word and reward the 2 men.

Note the comment about Wagner being wounded. Wagner kept in touch with Churchill for many year but Stewart was a quiet man and kept to himself.

How I acquired this group is a story in itself and one day I will tell it.

Kind regards

Munroe

Hi Munroe

Exceptional items that you bring out of your treasure chest!!

Many years ago I tried to add the AM group to my collection but I was 100% unsuccessful. Good for you to have landed it.

To fit in with the Armoured train incident : medals to 3 men.

Godfrey: One of only 2 men to have received medals for both Boer Wars. There were no campaign medal for the First Boer War, only gallantry awards. At Chieveley he was a Ganger and wounded in the incident.

Frost: Frost was the Guard of the Armoured Train. Family rumour had it that he was totally unimpressed when two of his colleagues got AM's and he awarded himself a second QSA, privately engraved Guard F Frost N.G.R Armoured Train. His original Qsa is impressed Guard F.Frost Natal Govt. Rlwys.

Scully: Scully was one of the Rl Dublin Fusiliers men who were taken PoW in the Armoured Train mishap.

Henk

Henk, Munroe,

This diversion into the Chieveley incident this afternoon had been wonderful and it is fabulous to see the medals to the men who were present.

Thank you both very much for sharing these treasures from your collections.

Many thanks
David

Thanks largely to Henk and Munroe, this has turned into one of the best threads on this forum - a feast of Boer War and other medals! Thanks to all contributors, but especially Henk and Munroe.

Regards
Brett

Munroe,

The Knott group has blown me out of my boots!!! What a Superb long service group.

The AM to Stewart is a pleasure to see. I am told that his old oilcan is in the Old Fort Museum here in Durban (that's if it hasn't been sold or worse!!!)
