Morning Elandslaagte,

I have just been going through the CMR information as part of my Wepener research.

There is not very much information here in the UK on the CMR so all I can tell you is that his QSA is confirmed on WO100/241p41.

A note says he was commissioned into the Regular Army.

The roll (WO100/239/273) for H Sqn CCF lists a Lt C Maude entitled to clasps CC 01 and 02 but the entry is crossed through.

The KSA rolls (WO100/358p308) holds the explanation. KSA (2) issued. Says served CMR 11 Oct 99 to 16 Jan 1901. Transferred as Lt, 3rd Worcesters. He served as Lt FLH from 16 Oct 01 to 31 Mar 02 and finally with the CCF from 1 Apr 02 to 31 May 02.

There is a shipping record from March 1901 saying:

The Bavarian landed at Southampton yesterday with 825 troops from the Cape. 3 deaths during the voyage. The following invalids were listed:

...

With the following on passage home:

3/Worcester – Sec. (? Lieutenant ) C C W Maude

Best wishes
David

Elandslaagte,

Cornwallis Charles Wyndham Maude joined the CMR in King Williams Town on the 23rd May 1896 at the age of 20 years.

His defaulters page in DD7/64 page 62 confirms the QSA with the given clasps and confirms transfer to the Imperial forces on the 16th Jan 1901.

His service in the CMR was rather clean with only 2 minor infringements which resulted in a small fine.
