I beg the indulgence of Forum members with this post - I simply couldn't resist :cheer:

I have acquired an unusual combination of medals to a chap who was a Solicitor and at one time Deputy Mayor of Pietermaritzburg before being appointed the Town Clerk - a position he occupied on his demise.

David Paton was awarded the Natal Rebellion Medal with 1906 clasp to Squadron Sergeant Major (S.S.M.) D Paton, Natal Carbineers - he was promoted to Lieutenant and Honorary Quartermaster before earning (and this is the unusual part) a British War Medal to Capt. D. Paton of the 1st Mounted Rifles (Natal Carbineers) - this was his only WWI entitlement!

Regards

Rory
