Well gentlemen, I am rather surprised at you both, I suppose, in your defence, if you simply did not know what a rare medal it was, then I can understand, perhaps a collector thinking, okay just another Natal Clasp. :(

Anybody else want to join the SB Club?

I do suspect that I am an honorary life member of the SB Club, over the last 40 odd years, made many medallic mistakes…...no good looking back, however, if you do you will just become a grumpy old SB.

If you take the good with the bad then they even themselves out, in fact I do believe I have had more great finds than disappointments. We have all had that "if only I had" moment maybe many, it is part of the hobby and we all stand to experience a few more.

Here is one of Calverley's comrades: Pte 262 A Hannah with the common "RoL" clasp, but he is one of the unit's two casualties for the war, both fatalities. Hannah died of enteric fever at Pietermaritzburg July 8 1900.

Clasps:
N - 11
RoL - 121
T,RoL - 15
OFS,T,RoL - 9
OFS,RoL - 1
RoL,N - 1 (not worked out which is correct)
9 other multi clasp combinations)

I would certainly not call any medal to a member of the Melmoth Field Force "common" in the case of this particular regiment, I would say it is actually quite scarce, but, this medal, like Rory's medal, is rare.
Very nice indeed, another magnificent medal.

I should, perhaps, offer myself for membership given that I just sat there on Wednesday the 20th of October 1999 and did not buy it, I would certainly think that I could have bought it for one hundred pounds or so, moreover, at the time, I knew, fully, just how rare it actually was. :(
