The RPR are a much under rated unit by collectors. Are you aware of the unit's writeup in "The Colonials in South Africa" by Stirling? Not only were the 4 Batallions tasked with repairing railways damaged or destroyed by the Boers; they were able to restore at least a limited service very quickly. They also patrolled the line and fought spirited actions on many occasions.

IL.

Very nice indeed, Shaw's medal is clearly shown in WO100/265 and was issued in October 1903 with the first three clasps, the supplementary roll confirms his South Africa 1901 clasp and shows it was issued to him on the 22nd of December 1904.
Shaw's particular regiment was the first of the four to raised, the 1st on the 18th of December 1899 in the Cape with, I think, from memory, about nine Companies, they were part of the SAMIF and were subject to their standard terms and conditions.
They were disbanded in Johannesburg on the 30th of June 1902.
They did see some severe fighting and after the affair at Norvals Pont, some of their officers had their slouch hat badges made using material actually taken from the bridge itself!
