Can anyone tell me when this cake of khaki Blanco dates to? I believe it may be quite early, i.e. Boer War era, but am certainly no expert.

Searching the Sheffield papers of yesterday shows that Joseph Pickering & Sons were in operation at the time of the Boer War as this illustrated advert from 1895 shows.

The article below is from a 1928 Sheffield paper and shows Blanco in mould form was amongst their products.

Two more adverts, the first from 1894, the second from 1919.
Your cake certainly looks very like the 1919 version ("web-blanco" illustrated), but it may not have changed since the ABW period.

To me the colour looks more WWI than Anglo-Boer War.

You could contact the Blanco & Bull company. They may be able to help?

This advert appeared regularly in the Army & Navy Gazette throughout the Boer War. The one I have extracted was in the 6th October 1900 issue. Note the "Sold at every Canteen" and the "cup-shaped blocks".
