I am trying to find out some information about a relative who was killed during the natal rebellion whilst serving in the Transvaal Mounted Rifles (H C Maw) in 1907 having previously served with Imperial Light Horse. I have his QSA Medal and Natal Medal. Any advice on how to access service records for both these regiments would be appreciated.

Cannot help with service records etc.

I do have however, the official history of the I.L.H which on page 59 tells us that Trooper H.C Maw of the T.M.R was mortally wounded in a lone clash with a Zulu scouting party whilst he was searching for his horse on the edge of the Kombe Forest, this was on the 13th May 1906.

Adrian, I tried to pick up a copy of this official history and instead obtained an original copy of the Story of the Imperial Light Horse although this only carries through to the end of the Boer War (which is also facinating). Is there any possibility you could scan and email me a copy of page 59? Thanks again + just in case my email address is This email address is being protected from spambots.
