My mother has my great grandfathers medals from the Boer War, we have two, a queens medal with three clasps no date and a kings medal with two clasps south africa 1901 & 1902
He was in 2nd Berks first one a corporal 2nd one a sergeant
I would just like to find out a bit more history as its not something I have ever looked at before

I believe it was Jesse Godfrey 3266
Although it looks like S Godfrey on one

Okay, well he was certainly, very much, the career soldier, an old sweat, I note that he had joined the Army from the Militia and chose to extend his service to twelve years, whilst actually serving in South Africa during the war itself.
It is good that your family have retained his medals, look after them, they took a great deal to earn.

Can you explain why we have two medals when I have seen all 5 clasps on a queens medal?
