I see absolutely no reason why this is not your man, you need to have a manual search made in WO128 at Kew, then compare what you find with this man's papers in the SADF Documentation Centre in Pretoria, if I'm right, you will indeed, have a superb and rather valuable group, it a pity that the Union Government did not impress the men's number on their medals for the Great War, but, I very much doubt if there were two of them with the same name in the 4th SA Infantry.
Notwithstanding, even if that were to be the case, these medals appear untouched with there original ribbons and only one man will have served in the IY anyway.

Regarding info on this page, Private A McIntosh, he served with my Great Grandfather, Pvt Hunter, William 36695 114th Lovat's
Clasps: QSA, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902

Later joined 4th Infantry Transvaal Scots, Sergeant 8197, 1914-15 Star
Discharged: Medically Unfit 28/02/17
Date of Death: 24/10/17

Does anybody know how i can trace where in Scotland he was born?
Been looking for so long now i'm almost ready to give up hope...

Being in South Africa i could assist in some information from this side....
