Hi,

I'm new to the Forum and joined as I have several ancestors who served in the War, but have had some difficulty finding out anything about some of them.

My great-grand uncle, George Biggar, was in the 9th NZ Contingent: his name is spelt wrongly as 'Bigger' in the nominal list. I have photographs of him in uniform and a copy of a letter he wrote outlining his experiences which I can post if they are of interest.

I had three other relatives who served. They were all from Ireland. They include two of my great-great grandfathers, Patrick Hennessey and Thomas Killeen and a step-great-great grandfather whose surname was Skehan.

I have tried to get assistance in having searches made for their service records at the National Archives, but have found the staff there somewhat vague and not especially helpful (I appreciate that is not their reputation, but can only go on my experience of them). I understand that tracking down Boer War service records is not straightforward. So I thought I would post what I know here in the hope of benefitting from the experiences of other experts and specialists.

I'd like to thank David for all his work in making this site available. It is the most helpful one I have found dealing with the Wars and has all the hallmarks of becoming the standard on-line reference point.

Thanks, JPC.
