My Great Great Grandfather Samuel Leech 4141 joined the Hussars in 1899. He sailed for Cape Town in febuary 1900. He took part in the skirmish at Geluks Farm 13 10 1900 where he was badly wounded. Leech S 4141 Private QSA (5). Severe Wound, Geluk, 13 Oct 00. Invalided. As you can see from my humble pressence he survived : ) He remained with the Hussars ontil independance in Ireland. During the great war he was responsable for training and preparing new men at Cahir Garrison Co. Tipperary. After Independance he acted as an advisor to Michael Collins, Chief of Staff of the Irish Free State Army. If anyone can give me advice as to how I could obtain futher informnation on him I would be thankfull. Yours respectfully

Hi Cahir and welcome to the forum.

There are some service papers for Samuel Leech for his Great War service. These are available in the National Archives or online from FindMyPast. These should provide you with useful information if you do not already possess them.

Best wishes
David

Hi cahir garrison
It seem that we are related to each others I am related Samuel Leech. I have found a bit about him I have his army records. I found a book Hussars that has listed all the names in Hussars. I did not hear that he was advisor to Michael Collins.

I hope to hear from you soon
