Just one more.
This empty arch must of housed a stone soldier statue, the plaque states it was hit by lightening.

Lovely to see pictures of ABW memorials. Over the past 25 years I have recorded over 1300 ABW memorials - see www.casus-belli.co.uk/abwmp

I wrote a history of the York memorial for York Historian (12:1995) - journal of the York Architectural and York Archaeological Society.

The missing statue was of a cavalryman. There is a statue of a sailor on the wall of the Carnegie Library in Lichfield that was made for the memorial but according to anecdotal evidence was rejected as he held a gun. In Treasurer's House adjacent to the memorial there is a wooden statue of the memorial with all the figures and the original sailor.

Is it available to view do you know or do you have a photo.

Hello Paul

The wooden statue was just on a window sill in the house - no label or anything. If you want me to check I can ask a good friend in York.

Hi Meurig,

Thank you that would be most kind if not too much trouble.
I get to York quite often only about 30 miles away, would be interesrting to see it if still there.
Just had a quick look on the memorials page on your website its very good, going to spend a few hours there I think!

Regards
