Thanks for posting Paul, missed this first time round.

The Union Jack Club itself is a memorial:

Gildea states "although erected as a National Memorial to men of other campaigns, is more especially the outcome of that in South Africa"

The Times dated 23rd August 1915.
"When the club was opened by King Edward in 1907, it was intended to be a national memorial to men who died in the South African War and a continual benefit to sailors and soldiers. It has fulfilled both functions."

Various bedrooms are dedicated to individuals, one is to Lt FHS Roberts VC.

Really must make the effort to visit.

Hi Meurig,
The Union Jack Club Library was paid for using the balance of the monies raised by the Jewish War Memorial Committee for the memorial at the Central Synagogue in London and described in the Jewish Historical Society of England Transactions. This includes a description of The UJC Library with a photo.

The next ABWPS meeting at the Club is on Saturday 25th November if you are in town and want a look round.

Paul
