Good gracious, that really is quite spectacular, there is a very profound difference between that and a brass plaque, no matter how ornate, truly magnificent.

Yes, it is rather nice.

The carriage works had started up at least as early as the 1850s.

I found this information on William : -

Parents
*******
John Marston 1833 - 1913
Ellen Edwards 1843 - 1917

Parents were married on the 1 March 1860, at St John's Church, Ladywood, Birmingham.
********************************************************

Baptized on the 11 August 1875, at St John's Church, Ladywood, Birmingham, along with two of his siblings.

1881 Census - William and his sister Beatrice, were boarding in New Road, Solihull, Warwickshire (now West Midlands), with Miss Elizabeth Edwards, a Governess.

1891 Census - William was 18, living at home with his parents. His father was John Marston, of John Marston's Carriage Works Ltd, Birmingham. They built coaches, carriages, hearses etc.

The company lasted until the mid-1930s.

"The London Gazette tells the sad tale of the demise of the long-lived Marston coach-building business:

On 31 Oct 1935 an extraordinary general meeting of John Marston's Carriage Works Ltd (registered office 21 Bradford St, Birmingham) resolved to wind up the company voluntarily. The liquidators appointed were: Charles Beale Marston ("Hill House", Leckhampton Hill, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire) chairman; Frederick Anthony Roberts ("Chartville", Mansel Rd, Small Heath, Birmingham) secretary and general manager (presumably of Marston's). The winding up was completed at the last meeting of the company on 27 November 1940. "

A beautiful memorial, Berenice. Thank you for showing it. William Marston's name lives on in this memorial, whereas that of the Carriage Works is probably largely forgotten.
Regards
Brett
