Saturday, 21 October 1899

Very quiet day. Cannon Kopje fired a few hundred rounds with their Maxim very early this morning but did no damage; it was only just a wakening up like for the Boers. Later on the armoured train went out on the race course line, and had a bit of a warm time, retiring without any casualties.

QSA (2) Elandslaagte, Defence of Ladysmith (4429 Pte. C. Paddon, Devon: Regt.)

C. Paddon attested for the Devonshire Regiment and served with the 1st Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War.

He died of dysentery at Chieveley on 4 April 1900.
