Recently a DMP QSA was posted on this forum. I was reminded of this while clearing out the mounds of paper I have accumulated over the years and came across the following note:
From H H Curzon's book, 'Regimental Devices in South Africa 1783-1954'
"The District Mounted Police was the mounted section of the Cape Rural Police. The Rural Police were not liable for military service as were the CMR and CP. Clearly an exception was made of the District Mounted Police, since QSA's were issued to the DMP."
The following extract is from T King's book, 'Gallantry Awards of the South African Police 1913-1994':
During the Boer War "numerous small forces were raised in towns and districts" for both police and military service. These included the "Namaqualand District Mounted Police", the only DMP unit mentioned by name in this book.
