Thanks for posting a very moving poem. "Lions led by donkeys" comes to mind. I wonder if a poem such as this one was the only way the 'other ranks' could express their anger without running the risk of being court-martialed?

perhaps they could post under a pseudonym and get away with it.
Lions continued to be led by donkeys for many years after. The powers that be, seemed only to have learnt about trenches from the Boers, long term....sad! :( There was a brief period when they copied the mobility of the boers with mounted rifle regiments. :unsure:
