The good folk at RootsChat confirm that the surname was Ginder. The parents lived at 7, Victoria Street.

Is there any record of James Ginder's occupation when he married?

FMP has papers for 2845 Pte. Augustus Ginder 9th Lancers. Enlisted at Manchester 9/5/1889 aged 18 years 11 months. Born Pendleton Manchester. Occupation grocer. Religion C of E. Served in South Africa 2/2/1900- 9/5/1902. Discharged 30/5/1902. Entitled to a QSA with clasps Natal, OFS & Transvaal & a KSA with two clasps.

James Ginder is shown as his brother but I still can't find anything on him. There is a James Ginder married at Salford in the 2nd quarter of 1888 but no further information.

Our Mr Ginder was a bit of a naughty boy.
He did a runner in Newcastle just after joining the R A in 1890 to join the Highlanders.
He joined the R A in January 1890 and deserted in March.

A-ha!!! I was wondering if the assumed name might have been because he'd been kicked out of the R.A. for some reason, but I like your post more.
