I am researching the movements of my Great Grandfather in the Boer War 1899-1902.

He served with Kelly-Kenny's 6th Infantry Division and according to family stories saw a few very hot engagements.

His regimental number was 5816/5819 (QSA lists 5819, KSA lists 5813)? Bit weird or what. I guess it's a simple error?

5819/5816 Private William CLARK (one medal spells it with an E).

2nd Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment).

I think he may have served in the Mounted Infantry Company of his regiment?

I'm desperately trying to map his movements during the war years using Google Earth. Problem I have, is that the places in books are almost impossible to work out as most have changed in the modern day SA.

His QSA medal clasps show he saw service in - Relief of Kimberley, Dfriefontien, Paardeberg, Transvaal.

The places I'm interested in include the following:

MODDER RIVER
KLIP DRIFT
ABRAHAMS KRAAL
WATERVAL DRIFT
DE KIELS DRIFT
ENSLIN
RAMDAM
RONDEVAL
KLIP KRAAL DRIFT

Plus lots more......

I have looked on Google Earth Community in case someone has ever helpfully constructed a map showing these Boer War place names. No luck.

I was wondering if anyone might like to construct a Boer War locations Google Map with me?

I would be happy to upload details onto my own website which is already getting nearly 50,000 hits each month - kentfallen.com
