The Mahratta arrived at St Helena on 25 June with 110 Boer prisoners and supplies plus some GA The Manchester Port also was at St Helena July 11. The 3/West India Regiment is to be replaced at St Helena by the 1st Battalion

Here also a passenger list landing at Cape Town from the Scot on July 14. It also includes passengers for Algoa Bay, East London and Natal.

p5a The Canada arrived at Southampton Saturday, and disembarked 81 officers, 52 sick and wounded and 940 convalescents. Lieutenant Colonel Wood was in command. She also carried the staff of the Portland Hospital who are all well and did duty on the voyage.

p3e Dateline Durban, Aug 22. The Dilwara and the Mongolian, taking 2,000 prisoners from the Cape to Ceylon, called here yesterday and took a battalion of the Gloucesters and a company of the Bedfords on board to guard the prisoners. The Catalonia will embark 80 prisoners (Harrismith burghers) and is expected to sail tomorrow in company of the transports.

The Dunera, from Southampton, has arrived at Table Bay. The Simla left Natal and the Assaye left Cape Town yesterday for England, both with sick and wounded.

Note– It seems much of the shipping news has moved over to the "Crisis” in China for the past month or so. The South African War seems to be routine. My comment only. Ken H

Thirteen menbers of Strathcona’s Horse and Royal Canadian Vols. , invalided from South Africa, left liverpool yesterday in the liner Tunisian for Canada.

150 foreign refugees, who have been deported from Johannesburg, were landed from the Harwarden Castle at Albert Docks yesterday. About 100 gained admittance to England and about 50 took 2nd class tickets offered them for the trip to their home countries. (Interesting story)

The Orotava arrived at Southampton yesterday afternoon with sick and wounded and disembarked 35 officers and 590 men, then sailed for Tilbury where another 53 men will disembark. Major Griffith, 1/Leicestershire Regiment, was in charge.

p8c Dateline Colombo, Aug 9. The Mohawk arrived yesterday morning from Cape Town abd Durban with the first batch of Boer prisoners. They will board special train this morning for Diyatalawa Camp. The Orient has just arrived today from Durban with 52 more prisoners, 2 officers and 49 men. Also 15 officers and 800 men of the 2nd King’s Rifles were landed.
