Stevenson, Robert

STEVENSON, ROBERT, Captain, was born in 1870.  He served in South Africa with the New Zealand Contingent, 1900 to 1902, taking part in operations in the Orange Free State, April to May 1900; operations in the Transvaal, May and June 1900, including actions near Johannesburg and Pretoria; operations in the Transvaal, east of Pretoria, October to 29 November 1900, including the action at Rhenoster Kop; operations in Cape Colony, south of Orange River, March and April 1900; operations in the Transvaal 30 November 190J, to February 1901; April to July 1931; October 1901 to 31 May 1902; operations in the Orange River Colony, March 1901; July 1901, and August to October 1901.  He was mentioned in Despatches [London Gazette, 7 May 1901, and 29 July 1902]; awarded the Queen's Medal with four clasps; the King's Medal with two clasps, and was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order [London Gazette, 31 October 1902]: "Robert Stevenson, Captain, New Zealand Contingent.  In recognition of services during the operations in South Africa".
