ROSS, H F C, Lieutenant, joined the
Queen's Own Corps of Guides, Indian Army, and served in the South African
War, 1900-1. He was mentioned in Despatches, and was created a Companion of
the Distinguished Service Order [London Gazette, 26 June 1902]: "H F C Ross,
Lieutenant, Corps of Guides. In recognition of services during the
operations in South Africa". The Insignia, Warrant and Statutes were sent
from the Colonial Office to Mrs Ross, 3 March 1904.
